the best holiday finds at Target
THE HOLIDAYS ARE HERE!!!!
Thanksgiving was barely a week ago, and Target is already selling out of their best decor. There are some people (ahem) who started the holidays way earlier than normal - think Nov 1 instead of Black Friday - because, well, 2020.
In years past, decorating for Christmas usually meant a live tree, a red tablecloth, and maybe a very old Advent wreath and some stockings tied awkwardly to the staircase. Now that we have a front porch, a mantel, and a very different layout, I wanted Christmas to explode EVERYWHERE in the least tacky way possible.
Target is not only generally more affordable than some of my other favorite retailers, but it’s also accessible with their Red card shipping and lots of locations with easy returns. I’ve been combing over their holiday items, and there are some gems in there at a really good price. This post wasn’t sponsored by Target (sadly). It was funded entirely by me.
A lot of these items will likely come back in stock, so if you see something you like, I’d encourage you to turn on in-stock notifications to follow the item. They ALSO go on sale, so look up Target’s awesome price adjustment policy.
DECOR
Ceramic houses ($5): These come in different shapes in three different color schemes: white-on-white (with glitter roofs!)and black and white. I swear I saw red in store, but I don’t see them listed online. Crate & Barrel’s cost: about $17. These are *five dollars each*. So good. Use one in a grouping or use three. While you can’t put a tea light in them, one clever Target shopper wove dew lights through the windows and y’all the village is SO CHARMING.
Bottle Brush Christmas trees ($5 for short trees, $5 for tall trees): I would pair the houses with some bottlebrush trees in varying heights for a little village scene. These could grace a bookshelf, mantel or a side table, and the trees themselves are toddler-proof. I love the flocked “snowy” edges and little natural wood bases.
Project 62 iron candle holder in gold ($20): This gold candle holder is versatile between seasons and could easily dress up an Easter brunch, Christmas dinner or completely non-secular dinner party. Every table needs some height, and this is it. I’m planning on it going on the dining table nestled amongst the gold mercury trees once we have a dining table again (next week?). Pair with simple white taper candles, or go splurge at Anthro, Etsy or Rejuvenation on beautiful hand-dipped colored tapers. Drool.
Mercury glass round candle ($5): This versatile pick brings a bit of glam to any vignette. It goes nicely with the mercury trees below or just for a spot of contrast amongst some greenery.
Lit mercury Christmas trees ($20 large, $15 medium, $15 small but listed as medium: these make stellar centerpieces or mantel decor in particular. I couldn’t find a small/med/large set where the coloring and pattern was exactly the same across the sizes; however, the above are indeed three different heights. The green mercury trees are also gorgeous, with or without the lights turned on.
6’ Faux White Berry Pine Garland ($25): If you’re keeping to a white-and-green look (instead of red), this is a GREAT option and can go so many places: on a mantel, shelf, archway, tabletop, staircase…and it sheds needles very minimally. It’s a bit lighter in green than some other options and actually looks great unlit.
Unlit tinsel Christmas trees ($15 for 18”, $10 for 15”, $5 for 12”): Possibly my favorite tree this season, these are available in three heights, each in a lovely champagne gold, green, and silver. I think these would look great to the side of a fireplace, opposite a log holder or other large item. They have a sparkle to them but are less flashy than mercury.
TREES & STOCKINGS
White and brown stocking holders ($10): At first I balked at $10 per piece, but then I looked at other retailers and HAHAHA. These are relatively affordable and come in two designs (house and church). The hook is flush against the base, so something to consider if your mantel has trim sticking out like ours.
Wondershop milestone ornaments ($6): Do you need to remember something happy about 2020? These remind me of the Crate & Barrel gold dipped ceramic tree for a few bucks less. They have new home, wedding cake, and paw print ornaments, and the gold looks just fine.
EXTERIOR
Home for the Holidays doormat ($13): Super simple and…very true this year. I don’t envision myself buying a new doormat every season, so this one will probably get rotated to the side door once the winter holidays are over.
Plaid indoor/outdoor rug ($20): I chose to grab this rug to layer underneath the standard 18” x 30” mat above so it would take up more visual space. At 25” x 38”, I worried that this rug would be too small, but I love the way it turned out. It also comes in a beautiful rust color. Our porch is covered, so it won’t see much snow, moisture or sun damage, but this may not be a great choice if you are expecting lots of slush and mud. I wanted to avoid a buffalo print because it’s everywhere. To me, plaid is a little more classic. Black and white was perfect on our red porch. I can change the top mat easily for a new look in a couple months.
Faux white berry pine wreath ($35): This is the matching greenery to the garland above, and I am loving the way the lighter color pops off our dark front door.
KITCHEN & TABLE
Hearth & Home cookie jar ($20): This could sit out year-round and go with anything else in white ceramic that you may have in your kitchen.
Stoneware mugs: The brown bear, gingerbread man, and Christmas tree are my favorites. We have PLENTY of mugs, so I have to try to resist here. But these would be so fun to get out every year for hot chocolate! Most of them appear to be sold out, but maybe they’ll get a restock. At $5 apiece, they could be the perfect accompaniment to a gift card or hot chocolate kit for a gift.
Red striped mixing bowl ($15): This also is the perfect size for cookies or popcorn or fruit. Potentially can be used year-round.
Izon gold flatware ($20 per setting): I’ve been wanting gold flatware for-EVER (I am a gold and not silver lover). This is a really approachable price point, has a modern shape and is made of stainless steel. If anyone has used it, I’d love to know how you like it. I could literally use this as our everyday flatware
Cotton plaid kitchen towel ($3): An inexpensive way to bring in pattern to your kitchen. This is a gift I never mind getting because it’s useful to boot.
Silicone spatula ($1): This is stocking-stuffer cheap. Last year I learned that you couldn’t have too many spatulas when my mom got me a Santa Claus pair of spatulas. I liked them so much that they now stay out year-round right next to the Pampered Chef and OXO ones. * shrug emoji *
Red and white windowpane table runner ($15): There’s something very understated and Scandi about this little red check pattern. Love it for a breakfast table.
Acacia wood plate charger ($12): These aren’t strictly seasonal, but if you’re looking at dressing up your table, this can set off a plain white plate nicely. I like that they don’t have a rim and are one smooth piece.
This week Target is running a blanket 10% off for Circle members (free), plus a good number of $10 off $50 deals for general decor. If you can find things in stock, snatch them up!!
